Hello, 2014!

You and me? We are off to an amazing start! So far I have lost three pounds, purged a ton of stuff from the house, folded lots and lots of laundry and tackled the massive piles of papers and junk on my desk. I even have my work clothes ready for tomorrow. I will be well on my way to accomplishing everything I hope to if this momentum holds!

With this new year, I am following fellow Music Mama Mari's lead (sort of) and chose a word to define what I want to do in 2014. Or, for me, a word to define what I need in order to accomplish my goals for the year. My word is persistence. After the divorce of last year and the fallout which ensued in its wake, I have a LOT of cleanup left to do. I feel know it is in my best interest to get back to good in some key areas, and the ONLY way I can do that is through persistence:

  • Health
  • Fitness
  • Financial well-being
  • Frugality (*not* the same thing as financial well-being as I see it)
  • Happiness
  • Creativity
  • Knowledge
  • Patience
  • Serenity

Those are just the building blocks, and not by any means a complete list of goals. And it should go without saying that I plan to spend as much time as I can with family and friends.

Also new for the new year? Well, the blog got a makeover. (Link provided for those of you reading in a reader. Yes, you can subscribe now!) It was about time, too. Gone are the magazine-style front page and Facebook comments. I lost them when I tried to re-position them, but hopefully someday they'll be back. What do you think?

I am excited about so much for the coming year, but especially music! The Girls at the Rock Show have their first concert of the year planned for later this month, a band I've been wanting to see since I saw them for the first time in September, and also a band which made my favorite albums cut over at The Music Mamas: New Politics!!

Today's Music Monday selection is New Politics' "Tonight You're Perfect":

  3. Sounds like you're off to a good start. I need to burn some extra weight before I got into hibernation state or something. lol Tonight You're Perfect is new-to-me, but I do like the music - great dance beat. Here's to looking forward to an excellent new start in the New Year for you, my friend. May all good things you seek to reach be attainable and may the blessings of the Lord follow you every day. Happy New Year & thanks for joining us on the dance floor on Monday's Music Moves Me!

    2. Thanks so much! Simplicity should really have been one of my themes for the year, too. Everything is better without complication, and while I loved my old design, the code and execution had gotten a bit busy for my tastes.

    1. A redesign/new look is a great way to start the blogging year off - it's almost like having a new blog, and I find it inspiring new directions.

  7. Congratulations! Your year is off to a wonderful start and I bet it feels good to accomplish major things. I have read and done some book reviews. I joined a FB group or event (I forgot which) about discarding 100 objects. Still working on that.

Like the others, I had never heard this song or group before. I am sure I will be listening for more from them.

    1. They definitely seem to be on the rise!

I need to jump into more things with the blog, but I find time limitations to be such an issue. We shall see!

    1. Truthfully, I could have used a lot more words, but stuck with persistence since that seems to be the ONE quality I lack past a certain point.

  9. I do love this song! :D
I love your word for the year…..it's one of my favorites I've read so far!
I have three words: Purge, share, and organize {what's left}. There's so many in need, and we have stuff that we no longer use that's been very well cared for, so we need to donate those items.

  11. These seems like some great key points to focus on and many of them are similar to what I'm striving to accomplish for myself this year as well. Happy New Year! Here's to a great 2014 for us all! xo.
