On dreams and talent and winners.

And based on that title, this is probably not the post you'd think it is. Since I was under the weather and binging on Netflix when not sleeping on Sunday, I missed Music Monday.

So let me change that really quick. The theme for Dolly's Music Moves Me was songs with the name of an animal in their title or by artists with an animal in their name:

Pantera - "Cemetary Gates"

So it's already Tuesday and I still don't feel like I'm all caught up on my rest. Probably because when I'm extremely tired, and stressed on top of that, and binge watching The Originals till I fall asleep makes me have bizarre dreams. Sunday night I woke from a dream that disturbed me so bad I would have stayed awake if I'd had the luxury of the day off so I could nap later. I don't know how it managed to freak me out as bad as it did, because when I wrote it down, it was really nothing:

I came home from work one day and noticed a child playing in my back yard, so I sat down to watch tv. Then I looked up and she is watching me through the window. So I pull the shade. I forget about it, and later I get up and notice there are several people - women and children alike - at ALL the windows. Then toward sunset, they are all over the yard, and on top of each other to look into the windows. My oldest son was in the dream, and they watched him play video games through his window. I guess some time passes and one of them got in my house while we were gone, because I walked into my bedroom to find the room trashed with actual trash, and one of the girls running out of it, basically through a wall (or maybe not; I didn't see her leave, just that she ran and was gone). And she had taken all my clothes out of my closet and stapled or otherwise attached them to my bedroom wall. Not in an artful form, but just stuck them all there haphazardly. The people were giggly and not really harmful, so they only tormented me with their trespassing and presence. I know it doesn't sound like anything more than slightly freaky and annoying, but during the dream I felt suffocated and like I was losing my mind. And I remember thinking in the dream "If I had not already made my mind up about moving, this would do it - I have GOT to get out of here." So I understand where my train of thought came from, but I would love thoughts on the dream itself. Why would people come staple my clothes to a wall? I hope that means I have a fashion career in my new future!"

Which brings me to today's coffee chat: If you could learn any one skill in the world without trying (like Matrix learning style), which would you pick?

I would absolutely love to learn to sew - without all the trial and error. I have so many plans for slipcovers, bedding, curtains, and clothing! My Mom gifted me with a vintage 1980s dressmaker sewing machine. Actually, it was hers, and she handed it down. However, I moved the summer a few months after I received it (in 2004), and I have not taken it out of my closet even once, despite vowing to many, many times. Now? Here I am facing another move this summer. I really want to get that machine out and re-learn to thread the bobbin - because honestly, that's the only thing holding me back.

So on to the winner of last week's Battle of the Bands in which I pitted Doctor and The Medics against The Kentucky Headhunters with covers of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky"....

I must say, you voters shock me every week. I am used to people not liking my preferences, but with my two battles so far this year, voters have agreed with me. Yes, that means that I'm casting my vote for The Kentucky Headhunters on this one, even though it doesn't matter. With a score, including mine, of 10-12 in favor of the Headhunters, they clearly win! Luckily, once again, it's not a shutout. Why did I vote for it, despite the Doc version being the only version I'd even heard for many years? Well, like the overwhelming majority of you, I loved the guitar solo. I loved that they twisted the original and gave the music itself a bluesy sound, and the vocals have almost a gospel-music quality to them. Part juke joint, and part old country church.

And that's a wrap for me. I'm heading back to bed for a few hours' nap before getting up and getting on with my day. I will be back around to visit linkup participants in a short while! (Gotta love the multipurpose post).

EDITED: after I went around trying to see who won the other battles and wondering why no one had updated their sites with this riveting, need-to-know information, I looked in the corner of my computer screen and saw that it's only the 20th. Oops! Seems I accidentally cut voting off a day early, but no worries. If you'd still like to vote, I will definitely include yours in the final tally and adjust the outcome if necessary! Carry on...

  1. I hope you get to use your mother's sewing machine soon. Put a needle in my hand and I freak out.

    1. Freak out in a good way or a bad way? I hope to use it soon, too. It's always my last priority on days off.

  2. ok, now I want to instantly be able to sew because the idea of my own curtains, slipcovers and pillow cushions just awoke the interior decorator wannabe sleeping in me. I truly do wander if I was to start a new career if that is something I would enjoy.
As for your dream - whoa! freaky. And I definitely get the impression of "I am living in a glass house" feel to it. Like you feel very transparent and it is scary instead of good. Not sure about the clothes thing though.... representing vulnability? An image change? hhhhmmmm... so fascinating. and now I want to be a dream interpreter. LOL

    1. LOL, I want to be a dream interpreter, too. Only thing is, I think the same thing can mean many different things for many different people, and you have to really have some grasp of what is going on in a person's life to figure it out. (I tried going to online sites before to see about what past dreams might have meant. Some seemed spot on, and some seemed to have nothing whatsoever to do with my life or situations I'd been in.)

  4. I don't know if I could narrow things down to one thing I would want to do! I would love to become a professional organizer. I'd love to learn to play piano. I'd love to know the business aspect of opening a scrapbook store and retreat center. Oh, if only I could! But, I have to work full time to make ends meet and send my kids to college, take care of our home, be a wife, mother, daughter, sister, etc. Oh well. Dreams... and nightmares. I have some really strange dreams sometimes, and I never know what they mean! Have a great week!

    1. Same here, but that is definitely the thing I want to do the most. I think I'd love being a professional organizer (I guess I kind of am, since I am always organizing things at work, haha!) You may not be able to open a store/retreat full time, but you might be able to host one monthly. It's a start, at least!

  5. Believe it or not, I have been known to be a dream interpreter. However, as you said, you need to know a little more to understand it.

ANyway, the music....I have not heard Pantera in years and I love it!

    1. Hahahaha! Well, as it turns out....I *am* thinking of wallpapering my next place. My feature wall, at least. And it will be a faux wallpaper treatment most likely. I like wallpaper, but know my limitations. I do not have the patience for that!
