Losing track of time

It happens so often here lately. As it turns out, what makes you lose track of time? was posted for Tuesday's Coffee Chat over at Time Out For Mom, so I actually gave this some thought.

First off, tv. I love stuff on HGTV like Property Brothers, Love It or List It, Property Virgins....and tons more. I love Project Runway. I try to never miss Parenthood, American Horror Story, Grimm, Criminal Minds, The Walking Dead, Justified, The Vampire Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, The Mentalist, and now The Following. I foresee having a lot less lost time once I have to cut cable out except for basic, and that will likely happen this summer when my divorce is final and I'm no longer only paying half the expenses here. I'll be okay during the summer, but heaven help me when fall rolls around and I no longer have access to Justified, TWD, and AHS!

Moving along....READING totally makes me lose track of the time. In fact, it is so easy to get lost in a good book that I don't even bring my books with me to work to read on my breaks. I'd probably never return to finish my shifts! And I have read quite a few lately that have me really excited! Thanks to Maryse's Book Blog I discovered The Devil's Metal, and I loved it so much I devoured it while confined to bed two weekends ago. And since it says it's Devils #1, I can NOT wait for the next books in the series. In the meantime, I am still reading (and loving) The Chosen Series by Denise Grover Swank. I am currently on Redemption, which I believe is the last book in the series. Sniff, sniff. But after I am finished with that one, I am definitely going to pick up Karina Halle's Experiment in Terror series.

I've been scoping her blog (I also lose track of time blogging, and reading blogs, natch!) and she has a page dedicated to her reading playlists....where she lists just some of the songs that inspire her during the creative process - and that brings me to the last - and probably biggest - of my lose-track-of-time culprits, music. It's even easier for me to get lost in sound than it is in tv or a movie even a good book. I LOVE to crank it up when I'm doing housework, working on my projects, driving, and EXERCISING - oh my, music really helps a workout go harder, faster, and better. Here's a little bit of what I've been listening to lately:

Volbeat - Heaven Nor Hell
The Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
Chevelle - Hats Off to the Bull
The Killers - Runaways
30 Seconds to Mars - From Yesterday
White Zombie - Grindhouse (A Go-Go)

You can listen to it here if you like!

So what makes YOU lose track of time?

  1. TV is definitely my biggest time sucker - I love Parenthood and The Following as well. I'm also addicted to Downton Abbey. The good news all of those shows are on basic cable!

I'll have to check out the Devil's Metal - I haven't read a good book in forever.

    1. I enjoyed it a lot! I had some very minor issues with it, but overall it was a great read and I'm looking forward to the others :)

I haven't seen this Downton Abbey show yet, but everyone raves about it. Maybe I will get around to watching one of these days!

I love that a lot of what I watch is on basic cable, but just as many aren't. And this makes me sad. Lifetime shows Project Runway on their website, but F/X and AMC do not.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. TV takes a good chunk of time. I actually vacuum and dust during commercials. Of course with just 2 of us at home it doesn't take long to clean up. Did you know if cut back on cable that a lot of the shows you watch are on line so you could watch them on your computer. You can also use your TV as a monitor.

    1. I know what you mean! I get up during commercials and piddle around with the housework myself. I am amazed at how much I am able to get done during commercial breaks.

I am going to have to end up watching a lot on my computer - even though I'll keep basic cable and many of the shows I like can be viewed online, my retail schedule sometimes causes me to miss and I have no dvr.

  3. I buy my favorite tv series on iTunes. That way I can watch it when I want to. You can always DVR it though. I L.O.V.E. vampire diaries! TV, Blogging and Reading… takes up a lot of my time. But, hey! I'm happy! ;-D

    1. That's a good idea, Tami! I think buying my favorite series on iTunes would probably end up being as much as paying for the cable I have now, so I'm not sure it would work for me. However, it would be good to be able to watch whenever I am able to or want to.

Heh, I am pretty happy, too! All my diversions keep me from reality for a bit, and I really need that right now.

  4. We could definitely lose track watching television, your list is almost the same as mine. I've missed my subway stop reading. LOL

    1. LOL, if I tried to read at a subway stop, I'd very likely end up missing my train!

  5. I tend to read more blogs and articles lately than actual books. There just doesn't seem to be time for both, but I should really change that.

How have you liked The Following so far? Love da Bacon -- really impressed so far. I think it may be a short lived series, rather than one that will go on for years - but it looks like great writing so far. So glad too because I am kinda getting bored with the shows I have been watching for years.

But music...sigh. We are 2 peas in a pod on that one. I couldn't believe that I had been on This is My Jam for almost 2 hours the other night. I was doing some sewing while I was listening too...but still: I could listen forever.

    1. I am soooo sad that This Is My Jam no longer lets me link to my jams. But I digress. I will just link to my spotify lists!

I am really enjoying The Following; like you, I love da Bacon (who doesn't, though?), and I like that I don't figure the episode out within the first ten minutes. But I LOVE how they're incorporating Poe. I wonder what they will do if it gets a second season?

I was hoping I'd be blogging a lot more in the new year, but so far? I'm doing good to get stuff posted and linked up (because my main reader base comes from linkups and such), let alone any posting that isn't part of a meme or hop or something. I do love finding new ones to read, though!
