The good thing about being quarantined per doctor's orders? You can actually write a blog post.

To make a long story short, I was hit - as in suddenly KO'd - by what I thought was allergies, then I was worried it was the flu....only to come to find out it was a nasty sinus infection (and I'm still not convinced it wasn't a touch of the flu - EVERYTHING hurt, I had a fever of 101, aches, chills, sweats, the works!). After two doc visits in two days, antibiotics, corticostearoids and orders to stay home and rest this weekend, I am starting to feel a bit better. And can actually get a bit caught up on blogging, since there isn't energy to do much else.

The worst part of it all wasn't the lost hours at work, or even being sick and at times in pain, but missing the opportunity to formally say goodbye to someone I'd grown to really admire and cherish.

Allow me to back up just a bit. The Sunday before the weekend I went to visit my family (January 6), my work family got some devastating news which, by the following Sunday, turned into the tragic loss of a vibrant, beautiful, caring, smart and talented young woman with her whole life ahead of her. You never saw Christina Leigh Linderman without a smile on her face, and she inspired so many people in her short time with us. I am so sad that she is gone, and will really miss her - but I am absolutely heartbroken for her new husband and their families.

Visitation and funeral were scheduled for Friday, which is the day I woke up with the nastiest illness that's hit me in quite a while. Needless to say, I did not attend, and really wish I'd been able to. I didn't take to the blog to make a sad post, but I did want to honor her in some small way. And since this week is "Freebie" week at Monday's Music Moves Me, I took to Christina's facebook page for inspiration. I found The Lasting Hope in her musical interests, and this is their latest single:

And....

Since this is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, here's one for him:

Thanks for stopping by, and head to Dolly's for the rules and to link up your own post!

  1. I'm sorry for your loss, Kim, and even more so that you were unable to attend the services. I hope you are on your way to feeling better. The flu bug got my son on Friday. This has made me want to hibernate more than I usually do in the winter. Take care.

    1. Thank you. Work won't be the same, but I hear everyone is doing well and it will just take time for it to sink in for me.

I will be so glad when this crud is over, but am glad it's not the full-blown flu.

  3. Death knows no bounds. What a sad turn of events in a young couple's life! My heart aches for the husband Christina leaves behind and all the family & friends, as well. My prayers are being lifted up on behalf of every person Christina ever touched. I'm sure her short lived life will have an every lasting affect on many we may never know about. God's blessings to you as you deal with the loss of a friend. Thanks for the little memorial of her on Monday's Music Moves Me - so beautiful!

    2. Thank you! Yes, it all seemed pretty sudden and is very sad, but her life was full of purpose and inspiration and she made hers count.

I am feeling much better, just still congested and icky, if that makes any sense. No fever and aches and stuff, though. I will be glad when it passes!

  4. Now this really took some thought. You're such a good person. I'm hoping you're better now. So sorry you took ill. As far as your friend I do know she lives on in your heart just by your words & actions. What a great tribute that is. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. Have a great day. I pray God helps you find peace in your heart soon.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I don't always feel like a good person, though. Seems lately like I am full of unfulfilled good intentions, but I guess you just have to roll with it.

Yes, Christina will live on in many, many hearts. This I know, too. I imagine for everyone, it will just take time to sink in and for us to adjust/adapt.

      You have a great week!

  5. Oh hon, I am so sorry for your loss and that you did not get a chance to say a proper good-bye. But what a lovely, kind gesture you've done here, and I really enjoyed the selection.
Of course, you can never go wrong with U2 either.

    1. Thank you! I do wish I'd been able to attend services, but I really don't need them to say goodbye. It may just take a bit longer to sink in this way.

I am over the fever and dreadful chills and aches, thank goodness! But am still congested and miserable. Ugh. I've now added Mucinex to my prescribed meds, so I can hopefully breathe and get some sleep tonight!

  6. Oh Kim I'm so very sorry for your loss! What a wonderful tribute to your friend - and the song choice for her is perfection. I'm sure she's smiling down from heaven for sure. :) Great song choice for MLKjr, too! :) Hope you're feeling better - have a great week! :)
