Come hell or high water

I am getting a #MusicMonday post up in time this week!

Actually, does snow count? Because over the past week, we were under about THREE WHOLE INCHES of snow (but there was ice underneath that), causing me to miss a few days' work and therefore, not stay caught up on anything I needed to get done outside of the house. Which is kind of why this is late-ish (only it's not truly late because it is still Monday).

So Spank contacted me a few weeks ago about Motley Crue's Farewell Tour (for this decade) coming up this summer. Seriously, I thought they'd already done that back in the late nineties, but I guess I was wrong.

This was my absolute favorite band of my teenage years. I always made it a point to go see them whenever they were in town, I had all their albums, and had my walls plastered with their posters. Until recently, I had all my tour shirts from eighties (but that's another story for another post). I'm sure you get the picture. I used to be a pretty huge fan. My "fanship" of the band may have wavered over the years, but it wouldn't be right for me to not see them on their farewell tour. So I will be going. I believe the date is in August.

The song I'm sharing today is one of my all-time favorites by them. It wasn't one of their hits or singles and it's not off my favorite album, but I really loved this song because to me it seemed more bluesy and stripped-down than their others had been. I played this repeatedly throughout the entire summer of 1985:

Motley Crue: "Raise Your Hands to Rock"

Will you be seeing Motley Crue on their farewell tour this summer? Who WILL you be seeing this summer?

  2. I will only see who comes to our local fair most likely. Seeing rock concerts is just not something we get to do much right now. Unless you count Disney Princess on Ice?? No?
    Dangnabit!
Would love to see a good old fashioned rock band!

    1. Heh, I think every band that breaks up gets back together every few years to make some more money. Ozzy's done it multiple times, and now Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction have done it as well. I'm sure the Crue will be back in a few years, even if it's just for special performances.

  4. I've had a couple of friends talk about the tour. Oh, and if you haven't seen it yet, you must see Kate Mara as Mississippi in happythankyoumoreplease....It's one of my favorite indie movies.

    1. Haha, I think you are right, Marie! I've lost count of how many bands do a farewell tour only to tour again a few years later. And I really thought that they'd already done this, but.....I'll be there anyway.

    1. I think so, too. It was lad-back and not lewd, and just sounded REALLY GOOD.

  7. Dudeeee, Motley Crue is AWESOME live! I went to Crue Fest in 2008 and saw them with KISS two summers ago... both GREAT shows! My Grandma asked me to take her to see them on their farewell tour this summer (Pretty sure I have the coolest grandma ever!), so I'll most likely be getting us tickets to go see them soon! Our tour dates for them are in August as well! :)

    1. Oh, that's so awesome, Terin! I saw them on their Theatre of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr. Feelgood tours before I grew out of them for a while. Then they had a different singer, then music was different and I didn't care too much about seeing them anymore, then I thought they broke up, but I think that's when Tommy did his solo thing (which I wasn't into)....so yeah. I haven't seen them since 1990?

i hope you and your Grandma enjoy the show!

  9. Motley Crue is one of those bands I never got into. The guitars in this piece sound pretty awesome, though. Great to see you on the dance floor with the 4M crew. Keep rockin' the whole week through!
