It is spring for good (I think!) and I have thawed out and returned to the blog once more.

Actually, this weekend it was pretty soggy and cold for this time of year. Not to worry, though, as I am sure things will be put back to good within a few days. Just a cold "snap" as we say down here! It did put the slightest bit of a damper on my visit home, since we couldn't spend nearly as much time outside as we normally would. But I had a wonderful visit, and came back with some photos to get me through Throw Back Thursday for a while.

Speaking of throwing back, this week's Music Monday theme is "Women from the 60's through the 80's." I know of PLENTY of ladies from these years, so I am going to attempt to focus on some that maybe not everyone has heard of....

The first lady I thought of was Wendy O. Williams - punk goddess, actress, dancer, cook and all-around bad-ass who fronted punk band The Plasmatics and ultimately took her own life after three attempts over a number of years. I learned who she was when I saw her and The Plasmatics on the short-lived 80's variety show Fridays. During her solo career, she recorded a duet with Lemmy of Motorhead covering the country classic "Stand By Your Man."

Wendy O. Williams and Lemmy - "Stand By Your Man"

Another 80's lady I thought of was Dale Bozzio, who is clearly (to me, anyway) a prototype for and influence of the likes of Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani. She has had a fairly successful solo career in addition to working with Frank Zappa, but she is probably best known for Missing Persons, the 80's new wave band she co-founded with her husband Terry Bozzio.

Missing Persons - "Words"

There are way too many other amazing, trailblazing women to include here. But don't forget about: Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Suzi and Patti Quatro, Grace Slick, Debbie Harry, the Wilson sisters, etc......and that's JUST in rock. There are so, so, so many women in pop, soul, and country from these decades, too, and all are worth a listen.

So my selections are only from the 80's....I can't wait to see what everyone else over at Dolly's has shared!

  5. The 80s totally rocked in the music industry. It just exploded. The Punk genre isn't something I am familiar with, so it's good to listen to something I don't know much about. Thanks for the intro! It's great to have you back on the dance floor. Have a tunetastic week!

  8. Oh I remember Missing Persons! That was so cool to hear again. First one was new to me. and it's so great seeing all these innovative women of music! I am rather kicking myself that I didn't include any Debbie Harry.
I really should go to my room and think about what I did. :)

  9. I have a tone of Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett on my iTunes. I would also throw Joni Mitchell into the ring. As far as TBT or Throw Back Thursday, I think unless I dig into my basement for pictures, the best I would have is from high school with...normal hair.

Can't wait to see the pics and to maybe find some new tunes.

  11. Hi, I finally made it, puff, puff. I love Dale Bozzio but this is the first time I'm hearing of her, thanks for posting her video. I should have read your blog first because you name some of the biggest stars of the 1970s and 80s - Grace Slick and Stevie Nicks! I had completely forgotten about them. It was great rockin' with you this blog hop and I hope you're having a terrific week!

  12. I'd never have believed Lemmy giving it Stand By Your Man if I hadn't seen it for myself. I'd never heard of Dale Bozzio before - it's good to discover even long ago 'new' artists. Can't help but find little bits of Debbie Harry in them!
