I feel I need to apologize for my tardiness in announcing the Battle of the Bands winner for the February 15 battle. Time is getting away from me a lot here lately, and it seems all I want to do is sleep when I have a free minute!
Alas, I am here now to announce the winner! By overwhelming majority, Santana's cover of "Black Magic Woman" won the battle. Even though Fleetwood Mac did a great song in the original, Santana went above and beyond when putting his mark on the song. Some of you described it as "otherwordly" and "mesmerizing." I agree wholeheartedly. It takes me, and the song, to a whole other place. One of the things I find most enthralling about the song is the snake-rattle-y sound, actually in "Gypsy Queen" at the end "Black Magic Woman" - what a stroke of genius to add that instrumental to the end!
This week's theme over at Monday's Music Moves Me is "freebie." So here's Marilyn Manson with "Deep Six":
Have a great Monday! Feel free to head over to Dolly's for more #MusicMonday or STMcC's to learn more about Battle of the Bands. Have a great week!
Nice tune. Interesting to say the least, something my daughter will be surprised I know about.
ReplyDeleteHaha, let me know how she reacts when you tell her :)
DeleteNot a fan of MM. but rock on anyway! ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know a lot aren't. I really love this song, though, and had to share!
DeleteNot surprised to see Santana take the lead in your last round of BOTB. I just love Santana!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn Mansion gives me the creeps looking at & listening to him. I know you're a hard rocker gal, so you're going to like my selections this morning, I think. :D
Great to dance with you, Kim! Have a tunetastic week!!
Oooh, I can't wait to come by and see what you've shared!
DeleteIt's been ages since I've listened to Mr Warner! Still ace after all this time!
ReplyDeleteI think so, too! Not the same sound I'm used to, but I like it a lot nonetheless! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog!
DeleteWow! That's wild! Have a happy Monday!

Heh, I confess to not having watched the video (just yet). I've just heard the song a few times and liked it so much I had to share :)
DeleteOooh go Santana! I can see how he'd win :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for rocking girl!
Have a warm week!
Indeed :) Can't wait to come visit you.
DeleteI'm with Cathy on Santana - a band I really like.
ReplyDeleteTake care of you Kim (smile).
LOL, I figured Santana would win, I just didn't count on how much of a margin he'd win by. You BotB-ers surprise me all the time!
DeleteThanks, Kim, for your recent comment on the dc blog. Some days are strange. (grin)
DeleteNot surprised Santana took that win!
ReplyDeleteMM totally creeps me out... but it's one of those things where I cannot look away either. He's not my particular style of music, and yet -- I do find myself listening to him when I come across a song because he's just such an interesting artist. I think it's one of those, I don't understand you and I need to figure you out kinda deals. ha But honestly -- art should draw you in like that, right?
Art should definitely draw you in like that....I think it's okay for it to creep you out (don't horror movies creep most people out, even though they enjoy them?), but some people also have a visceral "NO!" reaction to him, too, for a variety of reasons. Shock-rock speaking, he's not entirely original, but musically speaking, the sound is good and solid with distinctive vocals, and above all else, the man is a marketing genius, plain and simple.
