Is the month of December flying by at an alarming rate, or is it just me?

It's December 10, and I STILL don't have my tree up. I'm not too worried about it, though. It's a two-piece artificial tree that doesn't really require any work, after all. Due to our living arrangements, I'll probably just set it up this week, then my oldest son and his gf can help me decorate it on Friday. It'll be fun; hors d'ouevres and cocktails (or water. Or tea. Or juice) topped off with Market Pantry's Red Velvet Chocolate Limited Edition Holiday milk. I've had some, and I do find it yummy!

Thankfully, I do have most of my shopping done! But I am actually making someone a gift as well.....and although I have backup, I truly do hope it's done in time!

So....on to some Music Monday fun!

Last week, I linked up with comedic sketch "I Wish it was Christmas Today." But this week, I'm giving you an actual song: "Run Run Rudolph." And am I ever!

I just never get tired of it, and love it in many of it's editions! I picked each of these versions because I could tell that each different artist definitely added their own signature sound to it. I know it's a lot to sort through and I don't expect anyone to sit through ALL of them (well, unless you really want to. I certainly won't object!), but I'm hoping you'll scroll through, see what I have, and maybe a version you haven't heard yet will intrigue you enough to want to click play and listen!

First up is a rousing country version by Luke Bryan:

But my favorite country version is by Dwight Yoakam:

Did you know that Cee Lo's done this, too? Well, he has. And I LOVE IT!

And what about Keith Richards? Why yes. Yes, he has.

But I bet you didn't know 80s glam rockers Hanoi Rocks had too, did ya? Yep. And they even busted out the harmonica. Not my favorite by a long shot, but this video is something else:

So did 80s glam rockers Faster Pussycat (I really like it, too!):

Now, this one by Reverend Horton Heat is probably *almost* my favorite, just because I love this band so much! Here they are performing it live:

And here's a kick-ass version from the album We Wish You A Metal Christmas by Lemmy Kilmister, Billy Gibbons and Dave Grohl:

But my very favorite, hands-down, is the first one I ever heard, and probably the most well-known and liked version, which is from the AMAZING Chuck Berry:

But you saw that one coming, now didn't you?

Happy Music Monday to you! So tell me: What's your favorite version of "Run Run Rudolph?"

  1. You're absolutely so right. Chuck Berry's original version is the best! This is such a fun song. I don't know why it is I like it so much, either. Maybe it's that groove, toe tappin', get to my feet kinda beat. Great fun dancing with you today, my friend. Oh yeah, this month is evaporating! That's just crazy, too. Try to savor these fleeting December moments the best you can. Thanks for visiting my niche in Blogosphere on Monday's Music Moves Me!

    1. Yeah, if you love the "original," (I know Chuck Berry didn't write it, but I don't know of anyone else from that generation who recorded/performed it) it's always hard to top :)

  3. My favourite version is definitely Chuck Berry but Cee Lo Green's is surprisingly good.

    Have a fantastical week :-)

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Steve! Chuck's version is nigh to impossible to beat just because it's probably been the longest-running one. I was surprised I liked Cee Lo's, but it's all good.

You have a fantastical week yourself!

    1. Yes, even metal :)

I never knew Keith Richards looked good, either. I saw that face on youtube, and he *did* look familiar....just not like I've ever seen him in my lifetime, haha!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Ooh! I like Cee Lo's version! As for shopping? Kudos to you! I don't think I've ever waited as long to shop as I have this year and it feels as thought I've been picking things up here and there for months already.

    1. Cee Lo's version is definitely pretty catchy!

I don't mind waiting till the last minute for shopping....in fact, it doesn't really seem like Christmas if I'm not rushing out to get extras or something forgotten. I've come to associate the mad rush as part of the "charm" of the holidays, haha.

      Thank you for stopping by!

  8. December really is flying by at an alarming rate - you are not alone in that observation. ;) And no worries - while I put the tree up this weekend, I still have the ornaments patiently waiting to be loaded on. And I need to find all the gifts I've bought so far to start doing the wrapping - and figure out what I've forgotten to buy yet. :)

LOVE all those versions!! I never knew so many existed! :)

    1. I never knew so many existed, either. And I didn't even include Bryan Adams's or Sheryl Crow's versions!

Hope when you find everything, you've got it all and don't have to brave irritable crowds to get something forgotten!

  9. Honestly I haven't been familiar with this song, but I'm glad I now do. I love it when country singers perform Christmas songs. They just sound lovely. Keith Richards. I like him.

    1. Yes, those country singers sure do have a knack of creating a great cover version of just about any song. But Christmas songs especially.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I honestly didn't know he'd ever performed that, but I just happened to find it while looking to add a little more variety to my post. It was originally only going to be Luke, Lemmy/Billy/Dave, and Chuck!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
