Sometimes all it takes is one

One solitary act or goal, that is.

In my last post, I briefly touched on some intentions for this year and promised to come back and expand upon them later. Well, today's Coffee Chat topic is "One thing I would like to accomplish in 2015 is ___________." Oh boy. Only one thing? But I have so many things I want to accomplish this year!

And if I'm being completely honest, I just hope to accomplish good health. ALL kinds - physical, mental, emotional and even financial. I feel like the basis of improving any kind of health is to start by improving physical health specifically.

Why do I feel that way? Well.....I have a major health issue, asthma, that affects my ability to do many things. I am able to keep it under control most of the time with a COPD (yes, even though I do not actually have COPD - yet) medication which is very, very expensive. Therefore, I don't keep to that regimen the way I truly should. I just have to do what I can when I can. But one thing I did notice a few years ago, when I got about thirty pounds off, was that my breathing improved. My heart wasn't fighting as much weight to get oxygen to the other parts of my body. If I can breathe, I don't have to call out of work as often due to breathing issues. If I can breathe, I can exercise and continue to strengthen my heart.

That small improvement in physical health also bolstered my confidence (mental health), which made a huge improvement in how I interacted with others. Improved confidence can help you in so many areas of your life, such as landing a promotion or better job. It can help give you confidence in just about any other area of life as well. The endorphins released by exercise trigger a positive feeling in the body, and exercise also helped (my) depression (emothional health). The weight loss/improved physical health also meant that I ate less, and (a little bit; this IS me we're talking about here) better, so the grocery bill was a bit less. Which was a small step toward better financial health.

I could go on and on and on, but you get the picture. Good health - doesn't even have to be the best health, although that is certainly a worthy goal as well - affords so many opportunities for an improved overall quality of life. Therefore, I hope to accomplish good physical health in 2015. And to that end? Right now I'm starting off with the free YouTube workouts from POPSUGAR Fitness. If you're looking for new workouts to try, check their YouTube channel out. They have lots of five, ten and thirty minute workouts to customize and combine.

What is one thing YOU hope to accomplish in 2015?

  1. I 'cheers' to that! Good health and all that it entails is such a worthy goal to accomplish at any time. I had a bit of a up and down year in that respect, so I am really looking forward to having left that behind me, too. We can do this!

    1. Absolutely. I'm surprised I never made the connection before. I knew all these things before, but never realized how much they were all tied to physical well-being.

Best of luck to you, C! We can definitely do this!

    1. So true! Thanks for the kudos, but I haven't been doing a fantastic job thus far. Basically still in the process of jumping in. But you've gotta start somewhere, right?

  3. Oh my!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you tied all this together! You just delivered a major Truth Bomb my friend. The best health is when we take care of ALL of us. It's all connected.
And you know, I follow the PopSugar!! I have been doing their workouts for a couple of months now -just all different kinds of them - and I have seen such a difference. Highly recommend them.

Best of continued success - in all areas - to both of us for 2015.

    1. I was so surprised when it FINALLY dawned on me - after knowing all these "benefits" separately for years - that they all basically have to start with the best physical health you can manage for yourself. I know not everyone can achieve the same levels of fitness (any of them), but for those of us who are able bodied, there is no excuse not to. Now....if I could only teach myself to eat the proper foods I'd be set! Too bad I hate veggies.

Best of luck to you in 2015 as well, friend!

    2. Oh, and I'm really glad to know someone who uses the popsugar videos! I chose them to go along with my beloved chill workout, Callanetics (it's OLD, but I love what it does for my body!) because there are so many of them I know it'll be hard to get bored with them. And the ones I do like that I feel like benefit me the most? I can always keep doing them! I'm about to do the Vixen workout - the girl leading the class does it in high-heeled, studded shoes :)

  4. Important post, my friend. I have asthma. I also have Sarcoidosis and COPD; they were progressive. I agree how various aspects of health affects them and vice-versa. I wish you health.

  6. Good or better health is something many of us want to aspire toward, including me. I have Crohn's, so I know what it's like to be on a roller coaster of good & bad days. Here's hoping we feel our best in 2015!

    1. Absolutely. I didn't know you had Crohn's......I hope for improved heath for you this year as well. It's a great goal we should all aspire to; it's just much easier said than done. Am I right?

  7. I think good/better health is always on my list for every year's resolution! We really do need to devote time to ourselves so that we can be 100%. I am striving this year to just eat healthier and try to be more active...with no weighing in daily. Just want to try to change some habits and make better choices! Good luck to you! I hope you have a successful, healthy New Year!
