They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions

Yes, the road to hell may indeed be paved with good intentions - yet here I am with mine for both myself and the blog this year.

This is the post I meant to write for publication last Thursday, but that was when all the electrical outlets in my living room stopped working, causing me to vacillate between bouts of the following: uncontrollable sobbing. Wanting to take the extension cord I'd been using to power a heater in my bedroom (because during the summer, all but one wall of outlets stopped working in there) and severely beat floors, walls and windows with it - but I couldn't because I knew repairing and replacing them would be too expensive! And lastly, once tired and spent from all the distress, having zero fucks left to give it, only to re-energize myself enough during those calm periods to get worked up all over again. But back to my good intentions for the year...

For myself, I will continue trying to get fit and reach my goal weight. Despite what I divulged above, I am actively pursuing positivity and presence in all my actions, and have taken to practicing gratitude daily. It's really made a huge difference thus far. All I really hope for the coming year is peace of mind, confidence in the big decisions I have to make, to broaden my horizons, and better myself in any way that I can. Being my best self encompasses a LOT of different things, so I guess those things are best left introduced in other posts.

For the blog? I'll attempt once again to publish on a more consistent basis. I've streamlined the main blog just a bit - I didn't want to install a magazine theme, but I did want to shorten the length of the posts on the main page, hopefully to also shorten load time. And? I think this is the year I start blogging about other areas of interest: fashion, fun, fitness, vintage, and diy in addition to music stuff. That's always been a goal, it's just never happened. But it still needs to. And on the diy front, I *need* to finish some projects up around here so that I have some diy content. But projects take time and money, and I usually never have both at the same time. C'est la vie.

So...for the first Music Monday of the new year, the theme is new (and/or) new-to-you music that you just can't stop listening to. I'm all about new music, so here's a selection from one of my favorite bands of the past two years, New Politics with "Everywhere I Go (Kings and Queens)" Like everything else by them, it's fun and catchy despite the lyrics. The line "we been up, we been down, we got over it" sums up so much for me. So much.

And since I started watching Sons of Anarchy, I've been introduced to so many amazing covers that I didn't know existed. So this selection is a new-to-me tune from the SOA Vol. 2 Soundtrack (and also a contender in my first Battle of the Bands of 2015 - go listen to the other cover and vote if you get a chance!), Jane's Addiction with their cover of The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil". Sorry if this seems like a cop-out, but I promise it's not. I can literally Not. Stop. Listening.

Also, be sure to come back on Wednesday for the winner of the Battle of the Bands and Thursday for the first Mix Tape Shuffle of the New Year!

What new, or new-to-you, music can you just not stop listening to? Let me know in the comments; maybe it's something I haven't heard yet.

    1. Tiffany, I have no idea where to find your blog; your Google profile does not tell me!

I hope you are able to get your blog streamlined to your liking! I think the main thing is to find something to post every day, or every other work-week day. Follow as many hops as possible.

Anyway, I want to come visit you, but can't find a link! Or did I already come by your place and I just don't know it?

  2. Oh girl, you know I am feeling your house repairs related pain today!!! Hugs to both of us!
I love that idea of practicing gratitude daily: I think it would be much harder for negativity to creep into your life if that was our habit.
Rather liked that New Politics one, but Jane's Addiction really killed it on that cover! wow.

    1. Practicing gratitude has been surprisingly helpful, and I think it may be the one thing that can get me past my sense of entitlement. Like, I *KNOW* God/karma/fate/the universe/life doesn't owe me anything, but I get so angry at working so long and so hard for things to not be better than they are. So I am at the point where I *must* point out the things to be thankful for to myself before I become a completely embittered old shrew!

  3. Did you ever figure out why the outlets stopped working? I'd be paranoid about a fire hazard if it's issues in the wiring int he walls. Sorry, don't mean to play devil's advocate. :) I know exactly what you mean about good intentions and wanting to to more blog-wise - I've been coasting for a couple of years now, but this year I really want to get back to the fun I was having when I first started. This will be our year, yes? :)

Love your song choices - I'm with Rory Bore, Jane's Addiction really killed it on that cover! Awesome!! :) Happy New Year, Kim - here's to 2015 being phenomenal! :)

    1. Stacy, I am terrified of a fire, especially since my dogs are in here. All we can really do until I manage to get an electrician in here is be careful and vigilant and watchful and hope for the best.

But yes, this will definitely be our year. I can feel it!

  4. I'm doing 'Google' troubleshooting on home repairs, coupled with You Tube suggestions, repair information. Like Stacy though, I agree about the possible fire hazard. The components - outlets and test box for electrical current aren't too expensive - but the source of what's happening needs diagnosed. Like checking circuit breakers and such - sorry about the trouble you're having in the house department. It is a drag!

Good to hear you've got some real good things lined up for the blog and your interests in music and such!! Best of 2015 to you, Kim. You've got heart and brains, kid.(smile)

    1. Thank you, Dixie! As I said to Stacy above, I am terrified of the fire hazard. I am getting an electrician in here as soon as I'm able, but I'm really hoping the place doesn't burn down before then. I honestly think our outlets are just old and have had things plugged and unplugged so many times they've come loose or lost their ground connection. Coaxing things into an outlet helps. But it's definitely a job for a pro.

Best of the year to you, too!
