Progress: I am making it. And Battle of the Bands winner for 4.21.15

Good morning and good Tuesday to ya. It is sunny and bright (though cool), and I am hoping for the kind of productive day I've needed for months now. I am getting closer to figuring out what all to list on Etsy, and today is the first good light I've had on a day off since....I don't know when! I also hope we get the yard started, at least, and that maybe - just maybe - I can get outside and get caught up on some spray painting projects!

Road Trip Random #MusicMonday + BotB Winner for 3.21.15

As is my usual custom here of late, I am off to a bit of a late start on Music Monday, and certainly off to a late start on announcing a winner for the Battle of the Bands for 3.15.15. But I just got back from a quick trip back home to visit the folks and hopefully start getting a feel for my future home (more on that another time), and prior to that worked seven days in a row, the last two of which were doubles. I am beginning to think my schedule may always be something like this, but I'm not going to complain. I need every cent I can earn from my job! So first up will be the BotB winner...

Battle of the Bands Winner for 3.7.15

In March 1's installment of Battle of the Bands, I put two versions of "House of the Rising Sun" up for your consideration (and for your vote for your favorite, or least-disliked); a blues version by Leadbelly and an electro-alt/rock version by Muse.

So.....who won? Well, by my count, the winner won 7-3 (so it actually doesn't matter if I counted correctly or not, as I know the artist with the least votes definitely only got 3. And the winner is...

#MusicMonday and Battle of the Bands Winner

I feel I need to apologize for my tardiness in announcing the Battle of the Bands winner for the February 15 battle. Time is getting away from me a lot here lately, and it seems all I want to do is sleep when I have a free minute!

BotB winner and a few favorite things

Well, that was interesting! In my first Battle of the Bands of February, I pitted not two but FOUR covers of Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown" against one another. Aside from the rookie (well, I'm blaming it on being a rookie, anyway) mistake of throwing so many choices up - or maybe because of it - it's been the most controversial battle I've posted. I chose covers by Claw Hammer, Elwood, Dwight Yoakam and Toby Keith because I thought they all brought something worthwhile and something different from one another to the table. Even though Dwight and Toby are both country artists, their stylizing of this song couldn't be more different to my ears.

On dreams and talent and winners.

And based on that title, this is probably not the post you'd think it is. Since I was under the weather and binging on Netflix when not sleeping on Sunday, I missed Music Monday.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner!

Despite Guns N Roses having a much more well-known cover of "Sympathy" and an unknown but very worthy cover by alt/indie bands Band of Skulls and John and Jehn that you should listen to if you get the chance, I decided to pair another virtually unknown version by Horacio Hernandez to a cover by Jane's Addiction.

And the winner is......

I may have unofficially participated in this month's latest Battle of the Bands, but I do have an official winner from that unofficial venture. I gave my vote to Type O Negative because their cover was the first I'd heard, it doesn't sound remotely like the original, and they are one of my all-time favorite bands. Still, The Smashing Pumpkins won, 5-2. I can't really complain - though Type O is much more special to me, I love The Smashing Pumpkins version as well. Almost as much, in fact :)

As far as I know, the next Battle of the Bands will be January 1st. This will also be my next addition of the Mix Tape Shuffle, so expect a music-packed New Year's Day here!
